On 30 June 2011, the 50 paise coin became the lowest-value coin used in Indian coinage after all types of paisa coins were discontinued.

These 50 paise coins were minted in these Indian governments’ mints Bombay, Noida and Calcutta (present-day Kolkata) mint. Mumbai Mint coins have a mint mark ⧫ (diamond/dot), Noida Mint coins have a mint mark °(small hollow dot) while Kolkata Mint coins have no mint mark.

Made of nickel, this old coin 50 paise coin has a round shape with a weight of 5.1 grams, a diameter of 24 mm and thickness 1.5 mm. On one side of these coins, Ashoka Pillar is written and on the other side, 50 paise and half of the rupee are written along with two-grain flowers.
