The Indian one paisa coin was a former denomination of the Indian rupee. Whose 1 coin was equal to 1⁄100 (hundredth) of the Indian rupee. Decimalization was not done in India till 1957 and between 1835 and 1957 AD the rupee was divided into 16 annas. But in 1955, the “Indian Coinage Act” was amended to regulate coinage in India and the metric system was adopted, after which one paisa coins were issued on 1 April 1957. From 1957 to 1964, the one paisa coin was called “one naya paisa”. But on 1 June 1964 the word “naya” was dropped from use and the denomination began to be called simply “one paisa”.
Let us tell you that the one paisa coin was issued as a part of “The Decimal Series” which was withdrawn from circulation on 30 June 2011 and it was demonetized.
