Apart from the 1 Naya Paisa coin issued in 1957, 2 Naya Paisa coins were also issued. These coins are extremely rare and are available to very few people. Made of copper and nickel metal, these coins weighed 2.95 grams. These coins had the image of the Ashoka Pillar on one side and the sign of 2 naya paisa on the other side.
Between 1957 and 1963, two new paisa coins were minted only in the Bombay (now Mumbai) mint of the Government of India, which had a small dot/diamond (⧫) as its symbol. The coin has been demonetized.
Due to their rarity, these coins are in great demand among coin collectors. If these coins are available and in good condition then you can get Rs 5,000 to Rs 1,50,000 for them, but if your coins are in good condition then you can get lakhs of rupees for them. The value of these coins also depends on which year and from which Indian mint these coins were issued.
The era of Anna coins could not last long as the decimal system was introduced in India on 1 April 1957. After the introduction of the decimal system and currency, Anna coins ceased to be in circulation and new money coins came into existence. But it was called ‘Naya Paisa’ only till June 1, 1964, after which the word ‘Naya’ was dropped from Naya Paisa and only Paisa remained in circulation.
